To celebrate the 195th Birthday of Pride and Prejudice, the site managers have decided to hold a writing competition, open to anyone interested. The entry must be either a short story, or a mini-novel with less than five chapters. Please see our Writing Guidelines before submission, any submissions not adhering will be ignored.

PLEASE NOTE: Stories that have already been written for other websites are eligible for entry as long as they fit the guidelines.

Topics of choice are:

Pride and Prejudice

  • A what-if story if Lizzie had accepted Darcy's first proposal
  • Post-marriage of either Lizzie/Darcy or Jane/Bingley
  • story told from Mr Bennet's point of view

Sense and Sensibility

  • A what-if story if Marianne had married Willoughby
  • Post-marriage of either Marianne/Colonel Brandon or Elinor/Mr Ferrars
  • story told from Mrs Dashwood's point of view

Emma

  • A what-if story if Harriet had married Mr Elton
  • Post-marriage of either Emma/Mr Knightley or Harriet/Mr Martin
  • story told from Mr Woodhouse's point of view

Northanger Abbey

  • A what-if story if Catherine had married John Thorpe
  • Post-marriage of Catherine/Mr Tilney
  • story told from General Tilney's point of view

Persuasion

  • A what-if story if Anne had married Mr Musgrove
  • Post marriage of Anne/Captain Wentworth
  • story told from Lady Russell's point of view

Entrants are requested to email their submissions to pppemberley@hotmail.com, in an attachment using the Writing Submission Form (MS Infopath) or Writing Submission Form (MS Word) - attached to the email. Last day for entries will be on the 16th of December, Jane Austen's birthday. Entries will be judged on the 1st of January 2009.
